Happy Friday everyone!

Hope you had a great week!

Here's what has been inspiring me:

Art Ala Carte:

Valerie has some awesome drawing tutorials that have inspired me to draw a little bit!  This is very unusual for me but I've been loving it so far.  I hope to improve my skills with some practice!  You can find Art Ala Carte on YouTube and Facebook.

I've also been doing some quilting and hope to have something to show you soon!

What's been inspiring you this week? Share it with us below!

Wishing you big waves and an artful day!

Drawing Tommy Kane

I follow a lot of sketchers, journalers and artists because someday I want to be one of those people who chronicles their everyday life by mostly drawing. I have been avoiding sketching and drawing because I'm not as good as I'd like to be.

Lately the universe has been sending me a message LOUD and CLEAR,  "practice is the key to whatever you want to do well". So in spite of not being good at free motion quilting and sketching I am jumping in and practicing both. Truthfully I admit my sketching has improved immensely since I started in 2005, so although I complain about my sketching, it's in comparison to the pros. As an amateur with limited practice I am happy with my progress and hope to really enjoy the process of getting better.

I found this challenge on line, an artist, Tommy Kane, will send you a high resolution picture of himself, you draw him and send it to him. He has all the portraits on tumblr.  So, you know I had to take the challenge! Here's the pic, and below it is my sketch. I think I did a pretty good job, especially for not sketching in ages! Of course I looked at the tumblr pics before I sent mine in, so I didn't totally embarrass myself! It's fun to have a record of my progress, I think I'll draw him again in a few months so I can see my improvement.

This pic is the one he sent to me, I didn't take this picture, I don't know who did.

This took me a few hours to do after Easter dinner, I hope to be able to speed up the process a bit with practice.

Thanks Tommy!

Go make something!!

I Never Imagined I Would Feel This Way After a Trip to France.

Our trip to France was just as I envisioned, we saw so many historical buildings, landmarks, gardens, mountains, bodies of water, churches, monuments, sculptures, and art. What I didn't envision is the impact France placed on my heart and soul. I am forever changed by France. I see the earth more clearly and have a feeling of peace and joy in my heart, it's like I see deeper into everything and everyone. I don't know if my muse was awakened like all the other artists in France or if I was ready to be awakened and it wouldn't matter where I was. It doesn't matter, it happened just how it should.

Even in the rain it's beautiful. Monet's home and gardens really inspired me. Even in a steady rain it's the best place to be!

Oh Monet, thank you for your inspiration!

I've been home for three weeks and I'm wrestling with my muse, she wants to paint with watercolors and sketch, my head is saying no, you have so many unfinished projects to sew, get to it! My muse is winning most of those battles.

The view from my back porch.

A bouquet of flowers I bought at a roadside stand.

Doodles and dangles!

Does your interest change like mine? Please tell me it does...I hope to get sewing again soon!
