I'm Tired of Waiting, I'm Making My Own Spring!

I bought this pattern "The Nest" by Carrie Bloomston, at Such Designs, over a year ago in hopes of making it for last spring, that didn't happen so I thought I'd try again for this year! I'm almost there! It still needs to be blocked and bound, but as soon as my cold gets a little better I'll get right on it! It WILL be hanging shortly! I made it smaller than the pattern directions because I wanted to fill a specific place on my kitchen wall, it's such a free form pattern it didn't matter, I could manage the resize no problem! 

I quilted pebbles on the eggs.

 I also quilted the background with a few tree branches and leaves of a tree.

This is the upper part of the quilt over the nest. It looks like it's nestled in a big ol' tree!

I used all kinds of scraps and tore them into strips and stitched them all around the inner nest and eggs to make a nest just like a real bird!!

I quilted it on my domestic machine, once I got the tree branches in I wasn't sure how to quilt the rest of the background, but after consulting with my "moral quilt support group" I decided on vertical line quilting. The branches are horizontal so it helps the branches stand out. I like that this project was pretty quick and easy, and I promise I'll show the whole thing when it has binding and a new home!! Sew, it's Spring around here if you ask me!!

Blogger's Quilt Festival!

If you haven't visited the Blogger's Quilt Festival, you are missing out!  It is full of inspiration, talent, and beautiful quilts!

I've decided to take a chance and enter a quilt into the Modern Quilts category even though I've only been quilting for about a year.  It's a little intimidating when you see some of the quilters on the site but it's all about putting yourself out there! Right!?!?!

Without further ado, here is my Tula Pink Chevron Quilt:

This is the first quilt I've ever completed! It was also the first time I've ever used a long arm to quilt.  I did an all over pattern with a wave shape here and there to keep with the nautical theme of the fabrics.

I pieced the binding from left over Tula Pink and the back is a combination of Tula Pink and Sketch Fabric from Timeless Treasure.

Now it sits on the couch waiting for guests to snuggle up!

I was inspired by this tutorial from the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Love Swap

My guild has connected with a guild in Minnesota and we are doing a February Love Swap.  It had to be a 12 inch mini quilt in any way that you interpret "love".

Here is my creation:

This is the first time I have tried the darning foot on my machine.  I wrote the three love's at the bottom of the quilting completely in free motion.  I'm actually really liking the results!  It gives me a lot of freedom and I look forward to trying more free motion quilting on my domestic machine.  I can't wait to see what I get from my partner in Minnesota!!!!
