DIY: Star Ornaments

Happy December! It's officially the Christmas season! You will soon be decorating your tree and house if you haven't already and to help you along I'll be giving you some tutorials on DIY projects. To start off let's learn how to make some fun paper star ornaments that would look great on your tree, hung as a banner in your home, or can be used as gift tags!

Materials:
- Festive Paper (I used Double Sided Paper in the tutorial but they can also be made with Single Sided Paper)
- Paper Cutter or Scissors (and a Ruler)
- Twine or Ribbon
- Optional: Circle Paper Punch, Letter Stamps, Glitter

Let's Get Started!

Step 1:
Cut paper into 2 inch by 2 inch squares. You will need 12-14 squares per ornament.

Step 2:
Cut a circle with a diameter of approximately 3 inches. This will be the back of your star ornament and will not be seen, it doesn't have to be any fancy kind of paper!

Step 3:
Fold your 2 inch squares into cones and glue with your hot glue gun. You can use any type of glue you want, just keep in mind that you may have to hold them closed while the glue dries. Hot glue might not be the best option if you want to make them with kids, but glue sticks would probably do the trick!

Step 4:
Glue the cones onto your 3 inch circle. If you are making them with your kids you may want to write the year and their names on the back of the ornament, just an idea to commemorate the holiday!

Step 5:
Cut or use your circle paper punch for the center of your ornament. It would also be fun to use a different shape in the center, maybe a snowflake or a heart. Make it your own!

Step 6: To Make An Ornament:
Cut a length of twine or ribbon and put a dab of glue onto the ends. Push the ends into the crevice between the circle on the back of the star and the cones.

Step 7: To Make Gift Tags:
Stamp "To:" and "From:" on the center circle before gluing it down. This will make unique gift tags for all of your presents!

You can also glue the stars to a length of twine and use them as a banner, use them to decorate a wreath, or vary the sizes of the cones to make larger stars! Don't forget you can always use glitter to make it special! The possibilities are endless, use your imagination!

Wishing you big waves and an artful day!
