DIY: Glitter Ornaments

Last year after Christmas, I went to Michael's and bought a bunch of clear glass ornaments to decorate for this coming Christmas.  Needless to say on December 1st they were still not decorated.  But when my 5 year old cousin Kenadie came to the city for a visit I found the perfect opportunity to decorate both the ornaments and my tree! I found multiple tutorials on how to make these awesome Glitter Ornaments online but here's our process:

Materials:
- Glass ornaments
- Glitter (we used Martha Stewart glitter)
- Mop & Glo Floor Cleaner, Pledge Floor cleaner, or another brand of floor cleaner
- Glass cleaner and paper towels to wipe off fingerprints
- Paper plates to catch unused glitter

Step 1:

Take the tops off of all the ornaments.

Step 2:

Pour a small amount of Mop & Glo or other floor cleaner into the ornaments. Swirl the cleaner around to coat the inside of the ornaments. Make sure you cover all surfaces, the glitter will only stick if the glass has cleaner on it! Don't shake the ornament with Mop & Glo inside, it will create bubbles and the glitter won't stick as well. Pour out the excess floor cleaner back into the Mop & Glo bottle.

Step 3:

Pour glitter into the ornaments. You need a pretty good amount and don't worry about any waste, you will be catching the glitter the doesn't stick and you will be able to reuse it! Cover the top of the ornaments and shake well. Make sure to cover the entire inside of the ornaments with glitter (and yourself if you feel the need)!

Step 4:

Pour excess glitter onto a paper plate for reuse. Put tops back onto the ornaments and attach hooks. You can also wipe the ornaments off with glass cleaner to make sure they really shine!

Step 5:

Hang on your tree (or wreath or in your windows, etc) and admire your beautiful work!

These look really great and are super easy! It's so nice that the glitter is on the inside of the ornaments and not getting everywhere in your house! Kenadie and I had a great time working on these together and decorating my little tree!

Wishing you big waves and an artful day!

  1. Thank You! Now I know what to do with those balls that have been hanging (maybe not really hanging) around. I may just need to have your mother for a fast project (fast is not in OUR vocabulary). Looks like you Both had Fun!
