You would think that after going to 3 large quilt shows, 2 bus trips to quilt/fabric shops in Lancaster PA, taking 2 quilting classes at our local technical school, joining the local quilt guild and serving as project committee chairperson over the course of the last 4 years I’d consider myself a quilter, BUT I didn’t. I always thought of quilters as little ol’ gray haired ladies whose quilts were boring and fabrics were “sweet and cheery”.
My first completed quilt project 2008! A large table runner, don't know who I thought was going to use a pink giant table runner!!! Those little grid squares...realized about 1/4 of the way through...what a nightmare I had started!!
Through my experience the last few years, I’ve made some startling discoveries that I’d like to share with you: little ol’ gray haired ladies are hysterical (they’ll say whatever is on their minds), there’s something called art quilts (takes quilts to a whole new level), and quilt fabrics can be vivid, bold, eye catching and breathtaking!
I’ve also learned: that machine quilting isn’t a sin…you have to have a special touch to make a sewing machine lay down a design that is pleasing to the eye and adds something to the quilt. The quilting rules can be broken and still be award worthy, and it isn’t just little ol’ gray haired ladies quilting! Surprised? I was!!!
After all this research and analysis, I have decided being a quilter in the new millennium is exciting and I’m jumping in with both feet and no life preserver!!! Oh sure, I’m still knitting, journaling, beading, and doing all the other crafts I like, but I’m feeling the call of the sewing machine and have to answer the call right now, so join me as I navigate my way through the traditional and non traditional quilting world to find my place and settle in, because…. I AM A QUILTER!

Well, hello quilter! Welcome.
ReplyDeleteDon't you know that quilters are anyone and everyone? We love ALL kinds of fabrics and don't care whether the quilting is done by hand or machine (or a combo of both).
We quilters are some of the best in the world and we welcome you.
Hugs.
Gee, thanx!!! I am really enjoying all the bonding, laughs and creativity that I've encountered! Looking forward to many more projects and the friendship to come!

ReplyDeleteI considered you a Quilter ever since I meet you. I am Shocked! And for all our lovely quilter friends, I would not trade them for the world. They area hugh part of me and I hope I am apart of them! We all seem to have a bond. This comment is from your not gray (it is dyed not to be), anti-rule following(are we suppose to read directions) and Ok way younger friend!
ReplyDeleteYes, my way younger friend, you are a very special part of my quilting inspiration! I love your work, your sense of humor and how you respond to the world! I am so happy to be a part of CAMACO Quilt Guild and all the lovely members have to offer! Lucky us!! I didn't feel like a quilter until I bought that monster in the corner that snarls at me every time I go in the craft room! One of these days I'm gonna snarl back, one of these days...
