Weekend Recap

This weekend I had the privilege of spending some quality time with 2 of my favorite people: my grandparents.  There is something about spending time with them that is so special to me that I just try to soak up every minute of it.

On Saturday we went to the 9/11 Memorial in NYC.  The memorial itself is a very serene and peaceful tribute to all those lost in the World Trade Center attacks in both 2001 and 1993.  We all agreed that it was an emotional experience and yet to have a tangible place to see the impact in terms of the names of every single person lost and where the buildings once stood is something truly beautiful.

Afterwards we had an amazing lunch at Toloache and enjoyed some people watching in Central Park.  I was told about how my grandfather used to drive a truck full of fish up to Fulton Street Market and that my grandmother went with him exactly one time.  Apparently careening through the Holland Tunnel with  tires squealing along one side, folding in the side mirrors on the truck to avoid hitting other cars, and having to lay down across the seat of the truck at the market so that the “unsavory characters” didn’t know she was there was not something my grandmother wanted to do more than once.  Imagine that.

I even got to spend some extra alone time with my grandfather when we took a  walk along the Hudson.   We talked about sunken sailboats, moving bulkheads (and how to repair them), and hunting dogs, which if you know my Grandfather is not all that strange.

I had a wonderful weekend with my grandparents and am truly grateful that I get to experience their love.  Time has taught me that life is short and to enjoy these moments as they are given to me.

Wishing you big waves and an artful day,
