Hey, it's me, still quilting...which is not really a surprise considering my previous post!
I've been exploring all the tutorials on Missouri Star Quilt Company's YouTube Channel! They have some awesome tutorials and ideas for precut fabric!
I really loved this Sailboat Tutorial they put up awhile ago. They used a line from Tula Pink and I just couldn't get it out of my head! Missouri Star made a quilt and even though I love it I wanted to use the sailboats on a much smaller scale. This is what I came up with!:
I started with 2 sailboats sewn together. I knew I either wanted to make a wall hanging or a table runner so the finished project couldn't be too big. I decided that the boats need something more that just sewing them together so I started making blue half square triangles. I wanted to use them to make a chevron pattern beneath the sailboats to mimic waves.
I started to use 10 inch squares from a layer cake but I soon discovered that the half square triangles would make a way too big chevron for my little boats. I cut down the 10 inch squares into 5 inch squares and made much smaller half square triangles.
I arranged the chevron pattern and voila!: WAVES!
It still needs to be quilted and bound but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I think it will look great in someone's beach or nautical themed home! I absolutely love chevron and have enough of the Tula Pink fabric to make a full on chevron lap quilt. Stay tuned for that!
Wishing you big waves and an artful day,
~C
